The 2008 Doctor’s Vineyard Pinot Noir

Posted by Brian, June 15, 2009

The 2008 Doctor’s Vineyard Pinot Noir  is a big, bold pinot and a true reflection of the terroir of the Santa Lucia Highlands.  With a nose of dark fruit and subtle leather and all-spice undertones, the wine is a ideal pair for anything from delicious Pinot Pizza to hearty Lamb Stew.

The grapes for this wine were hand-harvested on September 8, 2008.  We hand-sorted the grapes on September 9, 2008 (see video).  After a 5-day cold soak and a 7-day fermentation period, we pressed on September 21, 2008 using 70% free run and 30% press fractions (see video).  We barreled the wine as a blend of 75% 115 clone and 25% calera clone in medium toast 50% new French oak from Remond.  On June 8, 2009, we conducted our first blending session, adding in clones 667, 2A, and Swan (see video).

The 2008 Doctor’s Vineyard Pinot Noir is scheduled to be bottled in August 2009 and will be available for deliveries in late 2009 / early 2010.
