Gina:

Geez- you've made me both salivate and turn green with jealousy in the same instant. Your trip sounds fantastic. Any day in Italy is a perfect day, right? I look forward to finally tossing cowardice to the wind and unleashing my three children on the poor passengers of some transcontinental flight (God help them). Since they are still only 3 and 3 and 6, though, I figure I can hide behind their bad behavior for another few years before we "Grizwalds" our way through Rada en Chainti! I'm inspired to cook Italian and pop one of our Uccelliera's this week. Cheers and thanks for your kind words and post.
Best in 2010

We just finished a bottle of the 1998 Uccelliera Brunello di Montalicino. Thanks to our friend Mark Reed of Okoboji Wines, we have come to love this wine. Kerith - your stories of travels through the region are wonderful. We highly recommend taking the kids with you - we do. Ours were 13, 10 and 6 as we made our way across Southern Italy this past summer - reconnecting with my family and photographing my children with their 4th cousins in Castellana Grotte. Our children have logged their share of cave visits. Oh yeah and the 1998 Brunello di Montalcino is drinking fabulously. Cheers! Saluta!

Mia:

Thanks for your note. We're glad you loved visiting Uccelliera as much as we did. Let us know what other wineries you enjoyed during your Italy trip.

We visited Ucceliera this summer, and bought 2003, 2004 and 2005 and we just loved spending time with Agnes and we of corse also met Andrea. This was a great experience for us, also for meeting these wonderful persons and we will for sure go back.

Mitch:

Sadly, we have not been back since our trip in 2003. When we went we were childless (well, one "in the oven"). Now we have three little ones and the thought of the 13 hour flight negates the joy we know we'd experience on the other end. We're hoping in about two years when our twins our 5 and our son 7 that we'll be able to gut out the trip. We did get this great follow-up Bruliam picture from Brigade member Doris P. who visited the winery right after our post - http://www.bruliamwines.com/2009/04/uccelliera-revisited/ - and she brought us back 4 bottles of the 2004!!

We just got back from our Tuscany trip. We spent several hours with Andrea and his wife. We bought a case of the 2004 Brunello. They were so friendly (but not his mother). It was hailing (yes in the summer) outside and they told us to sit at their kitchen table and have some coffee. I loved tasting the wine out of the casks. It was the highlight of our trip (slightly better than our trip to Avignonesi and buying their outrageously good Vin Santo Montepulciano dessert wine). Have you been back since your last visit?
